John Fisk, Co-Director

John Fisk has over 30 years of experience in sustainable agriculture and food systems development, having worked in nonprofit leadership, research, and philanthropy. He served as Director of the Wallace Center at Winrock International, where he advanced strategies for local and regional food systems transformation, regenerative production systems, and equitable access to healthy food. John continues to engage with organizations working at the intersection of agriculture, food systems, community health, and economic development. He is a Certified Local Food Leader and is passionate about healthy food and a healthy planet, bringing a systems-based approach and a deep commitment to supporting regional food initiatives.

Kristine Ranger, Co-Director

Kristine Ranger brings over 30 years of experience in agricultural production, food systems, and human resource development, working at the intersection of leadership, education, and organizational growth. She has worked directly with farmers, regional food councils, statewide networks, and national nonprofits to strengthen local and regional food systems and support rural economic development. As a Certified Local Food Leader, Kristine continues to consult with organizations committed to advancing community-based food systems and empowering leaders. She is passionate about cultivating connections between food, health, learning, and behavior, and brings a facilitative approach grounded in collaboration and capacity building.

Laurie Szczesny, Market Manager

Laurie Szczesny serves as the Market Coordinator for Alcona County, supporting local farmers markets and food access initiatives through the NEMI Healthy Food Initiative. With over 30 years of experience spanning engineering, executive leadership, and community development, Laurie brings a systems-based approach to strengthening rural food infrastructure and building vibrant, inclusive market spaces. She has led initiatives in the automotive and mobility sectors, and is now applying her expertise to regenerative food systems, water quality, and local agriculture. A Certified Farmers Market Manager and advocate for watershed resilience and community health, Laurie works closely with vendors, residents, and partner organizations to expand access to fresh, locally grown food. She is passionate about protecting natural resources, empowering rural economies, and fostering sustainable solutions.

Lainey Rigg, Outreach & Communications Manager

Lainey Rigg leads media and communication for the NEMI Healthy Food Initiative, supporting regional outreach and engagement efforts across Northeast Michigan. With a background in public health, community engagement, and strategic communications, Lainey works to elevate the voices and impact of local food systems through inclusive, accessible storytelling. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Public Health from Saginaw Valley State University and a Master of Public Health from Western University in London, Ontario. Lainey collaborates closely with partners, residents, and coalitions to advance health equity and strengthen connections between food, community, and well-being. She is passionate about building communication strategies that reflect the values of community-led development and systems change.
